Grandmaster Ip Man
Grandmaster Ip Man is widely known as the only kung fu master that Bruce Lee acknowledged. Ip Man was originally from Foshan China, an area known for its martial arts heritage. He was born in 1893 and began his studies at the age of 13. He continued training in Wing Chun for the remainder of his life.
Before he passed away, he had advanced 5 of his students to the level of master, his son Ip Ching was the foremost among them. When Ip Man passed away in 1972, Ip Ching inherited Ip Man’s residence, his kung fu school, and his kung fu documents.
The traditional Chinese established right of succession according to action rather than the Westerners method of documentary declaration. Ip Man’s leaving his school and his documents to Ip Ching is the traditional Chinese way of establishing Grandmaster Ip Ching as successor to the leadership of Ip Man’s organization. There are many others who claim to be Ip Man’s successor, but they don’t have the evidence to back up their claims.
